Hyundai IONIQ 9 in Canada: Three Rows and an EV Charging Plan
Make the third row earn its place
Choose the IONIQ 9 when you need a three-row electric SUV and have a workable charging routine. Start with how many passengers travel together regularly, how often you need the last row, and what luggage must fit at the same time.
Hyundai Canada's 2026 IONIQ 9 reference describes six- or seven-passenger layouts and a 110.3-kWh battery. Check which seating arrangement the actual trim has. Do not compare a six-seat cabin with a seven-seat family requirement simply because both vehicles have three rows.
Compare one exact configuration at a time
The manufacturer's up-to-539-km figure names the 2026 Essential RWD. Use the range figure for your chosen drivetrain and package when comparing an AWD listing. The current showroom presents 2027, so its equipment should be checked separately from a 2026 vehicle's specification.
Ask for the complete Canadian trim and package name, seating layout, wheel size and equipment sheet. A dealer's abbreviated badge may not establish whether a particular camera, seat feature or accessory is included.
Plan charging around the household
Hyundai's 2026 reference estimates about 24 minutes from 10% to 80% at a 350-kW Level 3 station using a CCS DC adapter. That is a qualified charging example, not an estimate for an ordinary home connection or every public stop. Battery state, temperature and the charger affect the result.
For your own plan, answer three questions: where will the vehicle normally charge, what is the backup, and how will a regular long trip work with everyone aboard? Check the actual car's connector and included adapters against those locations. Try a realistic stop with time for passengers, parking and payment as well as energy transfer.
A family test drive needs a loading test
| Check | What to bring or try |
|---|---|
| Third-row access | Put the second row in its normal position and have regular passengers climb in. |
| Luggage | Load the bags, stroller or equipment you need with every occupied row raised. |
| Child restraints | Check required positions and access against the restraint and vehicle manuals. |
| Parking | Measure the garage and try the door and liftgate clearance. |
| Comfort | Let passengers try their usual seats and the controls they will use. |
Record any compromises before comparing trim upgrades. If you only need two rows, the IONIQ 5 guide gives you a smaller electric alternative to assess. If frequent charging is difficult, compare a Santa Fe against the same passenger and luggage requirements.
Price the whole arrangement
Compare itemized vehicle quotes with the same tax and finance assumptions, then add charging installation where needed, energy, insurance and tyres. Separate required costs from optional packages. Use the payment calculator for your chosen inputs and the lease-versus-finance guide for a consistent end date.
Actual dated dealer advertisements appear on the IONIQ 9 hub when available. A showroom starting price is not the price of a specific AWD unit. Read its dealer attribution, verification time and price conditions, then have the dealer confirm the vehicle before travelling.
